South Korea – September 2016 (30 days)

We have been fantasizing about a trip for Korea for a couple of years, so you can imagine our excitement at it finally becoming a reality. The idea had stuck in our heads mainly because Mr K is obsessed with kimchi. We aren’t K-Pop oder drama fans, the only band I’m familiar with is EXO-K. We’ve got one month’s time on our hands, but we’re planning to take it slow. Budget is 3500€/2 pax including short-distance flights, which works out t0 53€ per person per day (excl. flights), but I hope we’ll stay way below that despite the weakened Euro. Accommodation is mainly hostels, love hotels and AirBnB, with a few hanok stays and a temple stay thrown in for good measure. Alas, Mr K is still to shy for Couchsurfing, otherwise we could save a big chunk of those 900€ in accommodation charges. I’ve started learning to read hangul, because otherwise  we’d get on the wrong bus all the time or end up ordering the meatiest dish on the menu.

Our trip will take us from  Seoul (with day trips to Suwon, Bukhansan, Nami Island among others) to Jeonju, Gwangju, a little hiking at Jirisan National Park to the south, where we’ll visit Jinju, Suncheon, Gyeongju, Busan and Jeju.

We’ll probably rent a car on Jeju, so I already got my international driver’s licence, which inconveniently is wider than my passport…

Getting in at Incheon or Gimpo Airport from Taiwan, we’re flying out Busan Airport to Fukuoka, for the Japan leg of our trip.
